Underwater Terps Scuba Diving Club
Open Water Diver Courses
The Lake Rawlings 4 day course
gets you certified in just 4 days. The classroom sessions are conducted on 2 week nights
and the pool/openwater sessions are conducted during one weekend at Lake Rawlings. If the dates for the classroom sessions don't work for you
and you give the instructor 2 weeks notice, he will try to schedule times for you. However,
the scheduled Open Water weekends are NOT flexible.
Our course fee includes everything you need to become a certified diver. The only extra requirement is personal gear, which consists of mask, snorkel, fins, boots, and gloves. These items can be rented for the duration of the course for an additional fee of $25.00. In addition, these items may be purchased as a special package deal.
All participants of any in-water scuba course are required to fill out a medical form. Click here to download and print a copy of the Medical History Form.
Learning Agreement For Underwater Terps Scuba Courses
Welcome to the PADI Open Water Diver Course. Diver training courses are meant to be fun, but like any form of learning, you’ll need to invest time and effort reading and studying. This learning agreement is between you (the student) and Scott Shriner (the instructor), regarding our mutual responsibilities in this program.
Student Responsibilities
The student agrees to study independently as specified by the instructor. In general, this means that before each class session, the student will:
- Watch the appropriate assigned portion of the course video or DVD.
- Read the appropriate assigned course manual section and complete the Quick Quiz questions.
- Complete the appropriate assigned Knowledge Reviews to be handed in at the start of the class.
In addition, the student agrees to:
- Follow all course procedures as set forth by the instructor.
- Ask questions about anything not understood.
- Show up for all sessions on time and be prepared with proper equipment.
If the student arrives at class, but has failed to complete and turn in assigned work, or the student fails to arrive on time, it may be necessary to make up the work and continue the class at a later date. The student will be responsible for any additional cost and/or inconvenience this may cause. In scheduling and determining additional costs, Scott Shriner agrees to give every reasonable consideration to unforeseen events, such as family emergencies that lead to this situation.
Instructor/Staff Responsibilities
The course instructor and staff agree to:
- Start the class as scheduled.
- Provide a positive learning environment in which to master the course objectives.
- Answer the student’s question to the best of their ability.
Course objectives must be met prior to the student being certified. Should the student not complete the course objectives, within the class schedule, Scott Shriner may need to schedule additional training sessions, at the cost set forth in the course payment and cancellation policy. Additional sessions will be scheduled until a) the student masters the course objectives or b) the student voluntarily discontinues the course.
No refunds for unused portions of the course.
Equipment Needs
Students will need to provide their own personal gear for class.
This includes:
- Dive-Quality Mask
- Snorkel
- Fins
- Boots
- Gloves
If you do not wish to purchase this gear at this time, you may rent it for an additional $25.00 fee. We also have a package deal for purchasing this gear at a very reasonable rate. Please contact Scott Shriner for additional information.
