Underwater Terps Scuba Diving Club
Advanced Open Water Diver Course
Advanced Open Water is the class to take if you want to have fun and learn to be a more confident diver. During this class, you will go on 5 specialty dives under the guidance of a dive professional. There are no classroom sessions, no pool sessions, and no quizzes or tests. All you need to do is read 5 chapters in the Adventures in Diving Manual, and fill out the corresponding knowledge reviews. You then bring those to the dive site on Saturday, and we get you diving. The 2 required dives are the deep dive, which will extend your depth limit to 100ft, and the underwater navigation dive, which will allow you to be a more comfortable diver underwater. The last 3 dives are up to you. You can pick 3 from any of the following:
- Wreck: Learn the basics of diving on a wreck
- Night: Experience the underwater world with a flashlight and see what comes out in the dark
- Multilevel and Computer Diving: Learn how to extend your bottom time by diving a multilevel dive profile
- Search and Recovery: Learn how to swim search patterns and locate missing objects
- Underwater Naturalist: Learn more about the underwater environment and how plant and animal life interact
- Peak Performance Buoyancy: Become more proficient at your buoyancy skills
- Aware Fish ID: Learn how to identify fish, and how to take part in a survey to track fish numbers
All participants of any in-water scuba course are required to fill out a medical form. Click here to download and print a copy of the Medical History Form.
Learning Agreement For Underwater Terps Scuba Courses
Welcome to the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course. Diver training courses are meant to be fun, but like any form of learning, you’ll need to invest time and effort reading and studying. This learning agreement is between you (the student) and Scott Shriner (the instructor), regarding our mutual responsibilities in this program.
Student Responsibilities
The student agrees to study independently as specified by the instructor. In general, this means that before each class session, the student will:
- Watch the appropriate assigned portion of the course video or DVD.
- Read the appropriate assigned course manual section and complete the Quick Quiz questions.
- Complete the appropriate assigned Knowledge Reviews to be handed in at the start of the class.
In addition, the student agrees to:
- Follow all course procedures as set forth by the instructor.
- Ask questions about anything not understood.
- Show up for all sessions on time and be prepared with proper equipment.
If the student arrives at class, but has failed to complete and turn in assigned work, or the student fails to arrive on time, it may be necessary to make up the work and continue the class at a later date. The student will be responsible for any additional cost and/or inconvenience this may cause. In scheduling and determining additional costs, Scott Shriner agrees to give every reasonable consideration to unforeseen events, such as family emergencies that lead to this situation.
Instructor/Staff Responsibilities
The course instructor and staff agree to:
- Start the class as scheduled.
- Provide a positive learning environment in which to master the course objectives.
- Answer the student’s question to the best of their ability.
Course objectives must be met prior to the student being certified. Should the student not complete the course objectives, within the class schedule, Scott Shriner may need to schedule additional training sessions, at the cost set forth in the course payment and cancellation policy. Additional sessions will be scheduled until a) the student masters the course objectives or b) the student voluntarily discontinues the course.
No refunds for unused portions of the course.
